Welcome!

We are Lily Fetcho,  Melissa Johnson and Emily Moore. We are Senior Girl Scouts in Troop 1929.  Last year as Cadettes, we began working toward our Silver Award.  We were interested in finding out more about our Earth and how to take care of it.  We wanted to be able to teach younger Girl Scouts about the importance of saving our Earth now.  We started by visiting our local Girl Scout camp to learn about the herb garden growing there. We then grew some herbs on our own. Then, to dig a little deeper into our subject, we started researching recycling options and came up with Three R's of recycling – Re-Use, Re-Purpose and Recycle.

We created a PowerPoint presentation that explained these options and asked questions about recycling and how girls could start the Three R's today. We also created a display board with pictures and explanations of our recycling options.  Finally, we brainstormed about ideas to keep the Girl Scouts interested in our topic, and created a recycling game to play.  It's called "Recycling Rhythms," and it tests kids' knowledge of recycling in a fun, active, musical way.

We have presented our project, called "Be Cool:  Recycool!" to a local Cadette Girl Scout troop and a Junior Girl Scout troop.  Additionally, we are setting up our display board and game at our local community fair . Finally, to keep motivating others to recycle in the future, we shared our game with our county's recycling coordinator.  We were happy to learn that she liked it, and will be using it to help teach kids about recycling at summer camps and in educational presentations.

We hope you will explore all the pages of our  Be Cool:  Recycool!  website.
